On Saturday, I went to Stand Up Comics. They sell comics, as the name implies, but even more. They also sell T-shirts, superhero stuff, vintage video games, consoles. I think on the way inside, I saw a Sega Dreamcast. I bought three games: Classic NES Series: Bomberman, Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, and Tetris.  I haven't played Sonic yet, but Bomberman is an excellent version of the original 1983 video game. Tetris was really for my Mom, she just pretended it was for me...

The staff was very friendly, and actually knew what they were doing (That's a first). They had a great variety of games, including NES, SNES, Gamecube, Genesis, N64, PSone, PS2, and even the Sega Master System.

So if you like classic games, come here. Long story short, I HIGHLY recommend this shop. I hope you enjoyed  this post. Gyromite76 out.

The Event

The Displays

On Sunday, September 1, 2013, I went to LEGO KidsFest. The LEGO KidsFest is a nationally-traveling giant LEGO expo held over 3 days and filled with interactive, creative and educational activities for the whole family. I went as a media reporter.

We went to the LEGO Art Gallery and made 3 Panels that said "Bay Area Gamers." I recommend doing that as your last event. There was also a large screen with the premiere of LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles. I will definitely watch it and post any new activity on the website because it looks cool. I will also be looking out for the Game. Other Cool events were the Giant Pile, the Hero Factory and Master Builder Academy.

My Favorite was the Nation Builder Activity. They built a GIANT CITY MADE OF LEGOS!!! I made a "K" Landing pad. I liked building a piece of an actual city. My least favorite part of the day was the pictures my Mom made me take... Overall, I thought the presentations and the displays at Lego KidsFest were cool.

Here's my favorite Display. It's Darth Maul and looked so real, it looked like it was punching me!

The next LEGO KidsFest Events are in Portland Oregon and New England. I highly recommend going because its a lot of fun.

Note to Parents: The Benefits of Gaming

Dear Parents,

Video games are actually less of a waste of time than you think. Video games improve a kid's imagination and increases their social skills.

Video Gaming improves social skills, especially in (safe) online gaming. It's like online dating in a way. You get to meet new people through text or a microphone. Gaming also improves social status. What I mean is it gives all kids something to talk about. For example, you can ask people about different games because kids usually have at least gaming in common.   At my school, a group of us created a group of young American gamers. Called the "Nation of Gamers, "  we have meetings and we talk about everything vintage video games. you know: Atari, Gamecube, Gameboys... stuff like that.

Games also increase imagination. What I mean is that kids are left to uncover the potential of the game's characters. They even might want to create their own sequel to the franchise or their own game.

Based on what I said before, maybe you will reconsider thinking that video games are a waste of time and brain cells. So much can happen from picking up any gaming system and playing a game.

Thanks for listening,

Gyromite76 (Ken)
