Dear Parents,

Video games are actually less of a waste of time than you think. Video games improve a kid's imagination and increases their social skills.

Video Gaming improves social skills, especially in (safe) online gaming. It's like online dating in a way. You get to meet new people through text or a microphone. Gaming also improves social status. What I mean is it gives all kids something to talk about. For example, you can ask people about different games because kids usually have at least gaming in common.   At my school, a group of us created a group of young American gamers. Called the "Nation of Gamers, "  we have meetings and we talk about everything vintage video games. you know: Atari, Gamecube, Gameboys... stuff like that.

Games also increase imagination. What I mean is that kids are left to uncover the potential of the game's characters. They even might want to create their own sequel to the franchise or their own game.

Based on what I said before, maybe you will reconsider thinking that video games are a waste of time and brain cells. So much can happen from picking up any gaming system and playing a game.

Thanks for listening,

Gyromite76 (Ken)

I would suggest Super Mario Brothers 3 and Pokemon Green. It was only released in Japan Though. But you can find it at the flea market.

Sometimes you have to make sure you set time limits on yourself but other than that they're great. And I agree, it's a great conversation topic if you know other people who like the same games or similar games.

You make some good points here; hadn't considered all the potential you mention and I am totally impressed with this site. Looking forward to reading more! Gotta agree with time limits though; too much of a good thing...

While I like the article, as a gamer (reformed or in recovery) I've got to ask a couple of questions.
FIRST OFF:
What in the world do you know about "online dating"? How do you even know that exists?
SECONDLY:
"Gyromite76"??? What do you know about Gyromite? You're taking ME back to the old school and I don't even remember how old I am.
THIRD:
When's your next post coming?

1st: I just know.
2nd: I've played Gyromite, and the name sounds cool.
3rd: Right now.
